Hi All,

Blitz Rating - 758

Rapid Rating - 1043

Got into chess last fall and bought a bunch of books and started studying more than playing XD.

Figured now would be a good time to actually look to improve my chess ratings not my puzzle one.

Looking forward to finally taking this seriously and hopefully improving my ratings!

So week one is is the books! Ratings are as follows:

Blitz Rating - 774 (+16)

Rapid Rating - 1052(+9)

Daily - 1118

Wasn't able to be super consistent this past week, I played 4 out of the 6 rapid games for this week and scored 1.5/4 but came out with a slight positive on the rating side of things.

My daily games were a bit strange, after analyzing them they were almost by far my most inaccurate games I played compared to the rapid and blitz games I played over the week. But I scored 3/3 on my completed ones (I'm not counting the one where my opponent flagged some how). So on a positive I won them, however I figured that with the time I had to invest in each move (I invested a lot!) I would play more accurately but I some how manged to make more blunders than usual. Possibly galaxy braining some stuff I guess.

I wasn't supposed to do any blitz this week however I would play a game here and there for a little bit of variety and I came out with a 4.5/8 there, so not too bad on that front. Got some nice wins there as well.

Hoping that this Blitz week allows me to get more comfortable with faster time controls, and the 5 second increment will prevent me from losing positions I otherwise would've won if my clock management was better.

Looking forward to this week hoping to pump up that blitz rating to be closer to my rapid one and will probably try and make up those rapid games I missed last week.

Cheers!

@JeMenCallise I have the same thing happen when I start thinking a lot about chess. I start to be too clever by half when I have time to think about it. I get excited to notice a revealed attack, or some clever combination, and neglect that I have a rook hanging or something. When I played blitz last week, I didn't have the luxury of time to overthink, and I thnk that forced me to make more solid moves, rather than searching for some fraudulent silver bullet. Keep it up, and good luck with the improvement. I'm hoping all these chess notions coalesce into improvement as I go.
