John Mack Yusupov Intermediate Plan

Hey everyone,

I'm John. im a 33 year old network engineer and am currently in school for data science. i saw Matt was a statistician so im hoping his methods match up with mine, as data science and stats are very similar. I have just purchased silmans end game guide and yusupov's book as well. they are in the mail.

my rapid rating is about 1400 right now. my blitz is is 863. im terrible at blitz and i honestly hate it. im going to try and get the blitz games in but im dreading it. 

with white i play the english/ will transpose to a qgd if they play d5. with black i know zero theory and have somehow found my way to playing the accelerated dragon against e4 and a KID against anything else. i am just starting now to look at some youtube guides on the KID instead of just winging it.  since its the middle of the week im just going to do week one twice since i dont have the books yet. 

oh also im about 2200 in puzzles currently

Why play the blitz games then? it would seem you're pretty good at calculating from your puzzles and rapid rating, but less good at making "instinctive" moves. Perhaps some puzzle rush would hone your instincts with greater intensity that a comparable time playing blitz games?

honestly i might just go that route. i was going to do blitz because its in the plan and i want to follow the plan. and i generally believe that doing things you are bad at makes you better. but i dont think it will have the carry over i want it to and will just frustrate me. so i might just do more rapid games and puzzle.

just finished week one. im not playing blitz. i hate it and its not happening. i had some free time so I finished chapters one and two of the yusupov books. chapter one and its test i felt was pretty easy. on the other hand i felt that the second chapter was far more difficult to find. im also struggling OTB im so used to the 2d chessboard. that should get better with time.

rapid rating is now up to 1428.
