Just Chess?

I enjoy this wonderful game every day, every opponent is different; some are very serious about "the fight" and that's what I give them, others are looking for friendly games and to chat which I enjoy the social aspect of playing..I have grown in my knowledge of the game and want to expand that knowledge. With each game whether serious or for fun, I take away something I have learned...

Often, when playing my 'Daily' games, I enter into the infinite world of fantasy. All my 'men', and my Queen, have names (which may change depending on color). I picture the game as a medieval battle, often including Rock Giants, Trolls, and even Wizards and Dark Druids. I encourage my opponents to join with me by 'narrating' moves in 'chat'!

It's great fun however you visualize it.

Teaching people how to play chess and how to improve their level of play is one of my two main goals in my "retired" state of life. My other main goal is to raise peoples levels of happiness, joy, peace and understanding of "right" and "wrong" by singing for them. I also attempt to bring people closer to each other and closer to their inner selves and closer to God in the messages contained in the songs which I sing.

I mostly follow chess like a sport. I was never really into any sport (Soccer, basketball or anything) and there is wrong with them, but I guess I never really liked it. Chess is easier and at the same time more complicated to follow (I say this because I can see better what is going on, there are only two players, etc.), also, it's very, very interesting to play too, it's good for the mind
I also enjoy playing with some friends, specially a certain friend which likes to make comments constantly (Ex: I move my pawn to threaten her knight. "HEY! What's your problem with my knights!" and I don't know why but that always makes me laught. So, there is the social part
As the interest that binds this group together it was inevitable that one of the forum topics would be our beloved 'Game of Kings'. But it can be ever so much more: a simple 'pastime', an 'obsession', an 'art', a 'science', a 'mental discipline', a 'fight', etc. Everyone has their own experience. What is yours?
