Just for fun: Computer and Technology forum

I know everybody is excited about the upcoming release of Windows 7, and I have seen lots of posts in our 3-word game about this. I am not saying that you can't talk about technology in other forums, I am just helping to move the discussion to a more easy to find location so that everybody can be involved.

Windows Anytime Upgrade prices haven't been disclosed yet. You can also buy a new Vista-based PC right now and, when Windows 7 reaches General Availablilty, get a free corresponding copy of Windows 7 (You can also buy Vista stand-alone right now too and it'll work as well.):

More info later on.

lol windows7 haha paltry GPU. no GPU is a GRAPHICS processing units. NOT a operating system processing units.

Aw I want ultimate but don't have the $. windows is so expensive.

James8

lol paltry GPU. that's still funny. you don't know how much those tesla cost

they are several thousands dollars each board. and I7 965 is what? only 1k :D

i7 975 (The GPU-socker at 3,330 mhz) is more expensive at $1020, but you haven't seen nothing. Take a look at Intel's server chips and you'll know how much it costs... Tesla is being sold at a rip-off price. Windows Vista Home Premium can be upgraded to Ultimate via Windows Anytime Upgrade, at a cost that's half of what it is retail. Windows is expensive because it's like the best os in the world and that Microsoft must make half it's profit from that alone.

James8

haha I heard mac is more stable :D

anyway yeah windows is awesome. and as I said, clock speed isn't everything. I can buy you a $50 3.73Ghz Pentium D right now if you agree to put it on your computer and use it for 3 years HAHAHA

nah tesla isn't sold at a rip off. it's like a first-of-a-kind thing so it's expensive. and tesla is GPU powered NOT CPU lol. Nvidia is a GPU company in the 1st place.

"Many-core Architecture Delivers Optimum Scaling across HPC Applications.

Parallel performance from 960 cores capable of concurrent execution of thousands of computing threads and scalable architecture meets computational demands of applications whose complexity has outstripped the CPU’s ability to solve them.

HAHA looks like Nvidia openly trashed the CPU. and yeah that was taken from the testla S1070 website i gave u earlier. if the thing is trash talking the CPU, how can it be a CPU? it's a GPU!

The mac is a big lagger, and if it were placed on my machine it would lag like heck. Also the whole os is flawed.

And Tesla has been used as a CPU, and it has been considered one by many.

haha total pwnage from NVIDIA TESLA. tesla GPU owns ALL! Cool

The Tesla GPU can't help out if I'm doing things like Chess analysis, can it?

Can it help out when I am downloading a file?

Can I use a GPU to copy files?

Can I use it to run programs?

James8

but the physical chips inside is GPUs.

James8

haha but for blending liquids like it shown on the vid, it owns.

as I said, GPU is GRAPHICS processing unit. it's designed to process graphics, not the many moves of chess.

James8

ROLF ROLF. when you're downloading a file lol, nothing can help out except your $$$ for subscribing to a faster service. clearly I'm amazed at your knowledge.

You can run a computer without a GPU (connecting remotely from another computer to use it) but can't without a CPU. When I watch videos the CPU usage also goes up, because of the code generating it must do.

James8

but with today's latest GPU, your CPU usage will not go up because the processing of video is offset to the GPU.

your 6800GT is not capable so don't even say it. you don't know it because your GPU can't do it. buy a 8800GT at least lol.

anyway, try watching a blue-ray disk or HD-video without a GPU. it lag :D

that's because CPU are NOT capable of processing beautiful high-def movies like the GPU can.

You do not understand, this happens on ALL computers, even ones with tri-SLI, and actually ones with multiple GPU's are the ones with the most problems, as the CPU must serve them all.

And the 6800 GT I use doesn't take much CPU, it's the driver. You're 7100GS isn't as good as mine, don't talk at all. The GS series wasn't designed for hard video processing, while mine was, so you may as well resign this argument (I just took your queen for nothing).

James8

I NEVER SAID MY GPU IS BETTER THAN YOURS. I EVEN SAID that mine is worse. and you can't even type the correct model of my GPU.

but I said your 6800GT is NOT capable of HD-video processing. nor does your CPU can.

anyway tri-SLI rocks lol. I don't see any problem I only see Crysis running like a dream.

and we're not arguing are we? I'm just talking about what I know.

Ever heard of Quad-SLI? my WHOLE DISPLAY is 1200p so you can't say that, and I've watched many HD videos on my computer. The CPU and GPU work together, ever heard of that? What you're thinking is that a great GPU=high performance; but no, that dream won't come true if you don't have an i7 or a Quad.

James8

haha so you think we're arguing. that's fine. but I think we're just discussing about computers.

quad-SLI is bugged. period. it performs lower than tri-SLI

yeah your display is 1200p alright. I said VIDEO processing, not desktop image processing (hello your desktop is obviously NOT a video). try playing a blueray disk right now, if you can.

James8

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809271891/trailer

run the HD 1080p trailer of that movie. tell me if the thing runs smooth.

btw that microsoft store link you put at the top of this thread is broken.
