Kramnik-Shirov Counterattack

That is what I have learned from analyzing master games recently. However, the idea was also proposed to play g3 on move 2 to avoid the attack entirely. I personally prefer just playing nd5 because of its success among expert players.

As I play the 2. g3 system as White, I am unsure as I've never had to face this position. The 2. g3 variation avoids this by playing the following continuation: 1. c4 e5 2. g3 Nf6 3. Bg2, then if Black still wants to play the Reversed Rossolimo, 3. ... Nc6 4. Nc3 Bb4, where we are in a good position to play 5. Nd5.

OK. Thank you. I think I still like playing nc3 on move 2 at this point. But I have been studying c4, nf6, nc3, e5, nf3. This position can turn into a four knights variation in which white attempts to fianchetto the light squared bishop and the doubled pawns on the c file turn out better for white or something more closed with d6.

This is the closed line I'm talking about, called the Old Indian. This position is obviously one of the many variations that could occur of course, but it looks fairly drawish.

I guess its a matter of preferance. Personally, I prefer the flexibility of the position over a quickly decided pawn structure, even with the Bishop Pair; either way works for sure though.

Wait what is wrong with your post? Black plays c4? White plays b6? And after b6 I'm not sure I like g3.

I'll keep experimenting & get back to you. Do you recommend any particular ".pgn" viewer for easier uploads? The FEN thing doesn't seem promising. Thanks-

S/he disconnected and lost on time. See the "0-1" in the upper RH corner? I'll add "Comment after Move" next time. Thanks, Nara-

Sorry for reviving this but you never reposted. I'm not sure if you still play chess but I struggle with 1.c4 e5 2. Nc3 Bb4
I did try to change it up and play 2.g3 but what happened what 1.c4 e5 2. g3 nf6 3. nc3 Bb4 (!!) I personally find the bishop annoying and idk how to get rid of this line.
Some help please?

Hey, sorry for the 4 years late response! I barely use this account anymore but I do still play. I grew to play the English less over time but when I do play it this is still an annoying opening to face. I think 2. g3 might be the way to go if I expect my opponent to play this opening. What about you?
One of the sharpest and most annoying responses to the English is the Kramnik-Shirov Counterattack: c4, e5, nc3, bb4. How does one deal with the position?
