what is petrov
learning Petrov as a backup draw weapon forr state. can someone teach me?

A backup draw weapon? That's no way to play chess - play to win! If you win that's great, if you lose figure out what you did wrong and try not to do it again. Never intentionally try to steer the game into a lifeless draw. The strategy doesn't work anyway unless you're 2500+ FIDE. If your opponent is stronger than you they will likely outplay you in any opening, so play your best opening and take your shot! Playing your favorite opening and losing but learning something new in it is way more valuable than playing a "draw opening" and losing anyway.

Play Sicilian or something else. I don't understand why people even play e5. People who play e4 literally want you to play e5 so why do it?

Agree 100%. Even if you learn to play a drawish opening, you are hoping that your opponet plays into your "drawish" lines. Looking at lichess's database, after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6, there is 5.3 million games with a draw rate of 2%.
Play to win. Period.

i'm saving it for my coach since I don't fancy trying to be ambitious as he is the much better player.

would work. if this wasn't state.... I don't get another chance until next year if I screw it up.

Playing for a draw is like when an NFL team plays the prevent defense. All you are doing is preventing yourself to win. Playing for a draw is like a boxer going into a defensive shell because he is ahead on the scorecard, all you are doing is letting the other guy to pound on you.
Play like you have been, which got you to your current position. Play for a win, if you screw up (not talking blunders), then you might end up with a draw. If you play for a draw and screw up, you will lose.
Playing for a draw is just going to give your opponet more attacking opportunies.
Petrov is one of the greatest weapons ever, I drew GM Dariusz Swiercz with it and have beaten above 2200 opposition with it. Play the Petrov to win.
"You need to have that edge, you need to have that confidence, you need to have that absolute belief that you'll win every time." as Magnus Carlsen said
“Too many times, people don’t try their best. They don’t have the keen spirit; the winning spirit. And once you make it you’ve got to guard your reputation – every day go in like an unknown to prove yourself. That’s why I don’t clown around. I don’t believe in wasting time. as Bobby Fischer once said
