lower grades can help higher ones

Im a believer that lower grades can help higher grade players . Even Carlson in his 12 tips to follow says he learns from all different grades. Most players coaches at top level are lower than the players there coaching. Also a lower player may be alot higher graded in endgames but never reaches them as his other play is lower graded

Good points. Never thought of it that way. So what is your best element of the game?

People have always said to me Im hard to  beat as I never give in saves or wins alot of points. Its other peoples opinion like as I ve said before I think us lower players cant distinguish our strengths and weaknesses as were not strong enough to recognise them.

Your comment about strengths and weaknesses is a very good one. My chess priority at the moment is learning how to analyse my own games. This something I find very challenging. Probably and logically the reason for this is because of my rating? I do believe however that understanding my own thought process and improving this will both help me understand myself and move my chess forward.

Regarding understanding your own strengths and weaknesses. You may be right. My own view on my game is that my opening is reasonable - my middle game is awful because if my opening doesn't give me a clear plan I struggle to see the strategic weakness, if there is one, in a given position to form a useful plan. My endgame is ok but very basic so requires a lot of study to learn the various concepts and strategies. Along with analysing my games - endgames and learning this art form is my second priority.

Given that by my assessment my middlegame needs serious work should my priorities be what I have said above?

How will I know if my thinking is correct?
