The day normally ends on February the 8th, but I might end it earlier if gimmewuchagot makes a non-tentative vote since (please correct me if I'm wrong) pattrik and pompom have made up their minds and refuse to change their vote.

Avatar of pompom

I'm probably not changing my vote, and pattrik probably isn't, either.

Avatar of pattrik

I'm probably not changing my vote either.

Thing is, I can claim the same thing you do, being citizen and not jailer and such, but what proves that I'm the mafia and you're not?

Avatar of gimmewuchagot

I'm the jailer. I have to decide... by the way, I jailed pompom last night, but I can't assume anything. So, make your cases as to why you're citizen and not roleblocker, pompom and pattrik.

Also, one question for ShiVi: if the citizen is voted off today, and there is only the jailer and the roleblocker left, then how can either side make progress? Since block/jail is the first "order of operation," doesn't that mean the jailer and roleblocker will block each other every night, and vote for each other during the day? I think this game has become impossible to lose, for the village. What happens on a draw?

Avatar of ShiViChess

The jailer can't jail the same person consecutive nights, so the mafia would autowin if the citizen was lynched.

Avatar of pompom

According to the rules, the Jailer cannot jail the same person twice in a row, and the Jailer cannot jail himself.  So, if only a roleblocker and jailer is left, I'm assuming that the roleblocker wins, although a draw might also make sense.

To gimme: I am citizen.  If I was roleblocker and you jailed me, then no one would have died last night.  So, I am not roleblocker. Wink

EDIT: Oh, sorry, I didn't see Shivi's post earlier.

Yep... so I vote pattrik. Good game.

ShiVi, we really shouldn't make it that we have to lynch every day... see my alternate rules I posted earlier.

You don't have to vote every day.  Where did you get that rule?

Your proposal looks pretty good: I think I'll adopt it.

So now there is a new category called "No Lynch", for those who do not want a lynch that day.

If less than half of all players are voting, the the deadline will be extended.

B_Cuzican: 2 (Kacparov, pompom)
Kacparov: 2 (B_Cuzican, The_Chess_King)
No Lynch: 1 (gimmewuchagot)
Abstaining: 1 (pattrik)
If two or more options are tied (as shown above), then those not voting for the tied options break the tie. So in this case, gimme or pattrik (whoever switches his vote first) decides whether B or Kac is lynched.

B_Cuzican: 2 (Kacparov, pompom)
Kacparov: 2 (B_Cuzican, The_Chess_King)
No Lynch: 2 (gimmewuchagot, pattrik)
Abstaining: 0
If two or more options are tied, and everybody votes for those same options (as shown above), then there is no lynch.

So, what do you guys think?

Avatar of pattrik

Looks like you solved it. Good game :)

However, it would be more eventful with more players to start with. If, perhaps, there were 4 people in the last round, then I believe that I might have won.

Avatar of pompom

I think Shivi's proposal looks good.  It makes sense to be able to vote for "No one", and the new voting system makes sense.

Okay then.

So, for Mafia 9, I'm planning on introducing a few new things.

The first thing I want to add is flavor. Right now, the story and role names are the same as the actual role names. Every story has been about the mafia killing the citizens one by one each night. The mafia are called mafia, the roleblockers are called roleblockers, the citizens are called citizens, and the power roles are called by their role name. But different flavors allow for different stories: what about stories that aren't mafia themed? Say, a modern setting: the mafia are called gangs, the sheriffs are called cops, and each player has their own name, title, and backstory? What about variations of roles, like a doctor who could only use his ability a set number of times, or a vigilante who could only kill every other night? Or even a mafia-aligned doctor to protect from vigilantes?

This also ties in to one of the new role categories: other types of sheriffs. For example, a role sheriff, instead of learning their targets' alignments, would learn their roles. So while a regular sheriff would be told "citizen" or "mafia", a role sheriff would be told "plain" (citizen or mafia), "investigator" (sheriff), "healer" (doctor), "killer" (vigilante), or "blocker" (jailer, roleblocker). Or a flavor sheriff, who would learn the flavor name of a character (like "Robert Smith, Chief of Police") without knowing exactly what alignment or role that character is (is he citizen- or mafia-aligned? A sheriff? A vigilante? A jailer?). Or a full sheriff, who receives the entirety of their targets' role descriptions?

I have another new role in mind for Mafia 9, but I've decided to keep it a secret.

I'm sure some of you remember Mafia Variants: how it had multiple alignments and multiple roles, which could be matched up any which way. With Mafia 9, I want to take a step in that direction - a small step, but a step nonetheless.

Of course, the descent into this more complex version of mafia will be gentle: the next game will have almost all the details of its setup revealed from the start, including all but one of the new roles.

So, I have just two questions for you all: What theme do you guys want for the next game? And are you in for Mafia 9?

Oh, I just realized that I forgot to properly close the game. So here's the ending:

pompom suddenly launched himself at pattrik. pattrik could barely withstand the assualt, managing just enough breath to utter a few words before being drawn back into the fight.

"gimme... save me... pompom's mafia..."

But gimme knew better.

"pompom's not the mafia. I jailed him last night, but somebody died anyways. You, pattrik, are the mafia!"

His face grim and resolute, gimme slowly and suspensefully approached pattrik with fire in his eyes.

"You, pattrik, are the one who shot the Man From The Abyss. You, pattrik, are the one who shattered the skull of Kacparov. You are the reason we all lived in fear, the reason this island is in ruins. And now, you... will... die."

gimme did not shout: his voice remained calm and steady. pompom was pounding away at pattrik, but pattrik didn't notice: he was far more worried about the gimmewuchagot: the calm before the storm.

Or not. With one clean movement, pattrik swept his leg, tripping pompom, and bolted. He headed into the thick of the forest, but gimme jumped pompom and ran after him, determined to bring him to justice.

pattrik effortlessly jumped trees and rivers, ran up trunks and jumped from branch to branch, swung on vines. He ran into and out of caves, jumped caverns and crevasses, and skillfully weaved his way towards the edge of the island without breaking a sweat. gimme's resolve was all that kept him from falling behind, but not for much longer.

pattrik reached a cliff and started running up, gimme in hot pursuit. Now pattrik had nowhere to go, and gimme approached him, maintaining his composure. But then pattrik turned around, looked gimme in the eye, and smirked.

"Sayonara, sucker!"

And with those words, pattrik fell backwards off the cliff into the rocks below. gimme, making a split-second decision, ran to the edge and jumped, refusing to let pattrik go after coming so close.

They both landed in a boat: pattrik and the other mafia had hidden it there for an easy escape from the island should things so awry. gimme had landed on top of pattrik, but pattrik quickly pinned gimme to the side of the boat, almost capsizing it in the process. gimme struggled to regain control, but the chase had tired him, and pattrik gained ground, bringing him closer and closer to drowning.

But just as gimme was about to drown, pattrik's body went limp, and gimme broke free and returned to the surface, greeted by a bullet hole clean through pattrik's neck. On the cliff stood pompom, blowing on a smoking six-shooter - the same one that pattrik rigged to kill Kacparov. pompom then leaped off the cliff, and using the remaining bullets, propelled himself into the escape boat. And the jailer and the citizen sailed into the sunset, leaving behind the wreckage that is Mafia Island - hopefully for good.

I think we should add more roles.  We don't exactly have enough people to do a lot, though.  Hopefully more people will join next round.

Great to hear you all are in for Mafia 9!

So, do any of you have suggestions for the theme for Mafia 9? A modern theme, maybe, with gangs and cops? An internet theme, with hackers and sysadmins? I'm open to suggestions.
