I must have missed something - when has the site ever promised to make its API facility interactive?

Wasn't that written in 2017? I have a feeling it's been quietly shelved, at least for now!
They've had quite a few issues just getting the public, read-only service to work after all.
It saying "updated 12.04.2019
Nevertheless, my last sentence is still valid...how can square off doing it, if its not READY?

2019? That being the case we may need to be patient because the end of the year still gives the developers several months. I'll watch what happens with interest.

They have a special API for them. We haven't decided to open this up, as it could create some issues. If you have an app you'd like to develop with PLAY access, feel free to reach out to me!

as far i understood an API to do something like:

If thats so, how can "square off" (this chess board) providing this functionality right now?
