Mating patterns (Part 1)

This is just a post compiling common mating patterns.

I will give an instructive example to illustrate this point, given in the book Mastering Chess. It's white to move, can you find the winning move?

This is much easier to find if we recall this common mating pattern:

Sorry about this being broken up in several parts, it seems to go crazy if the post is too long/has too many puzzles.
