Me versus Karpov!

Please give me your thoughts and opinions on this game so that I can learn and get better because of it. Thank You!

You played against Anatoly Karpov, congratulations for that alone! Thanks for posting your game. One of the things I notice is that White's pieces are more active than Black's and control much more of the board. Would one of our experts care to give us an analysis?

4...d6 is calm move, not so sharp as Nxe4. It's really useful game, especially - for beginners. King's Pawn game is the main opening, and every beginner should know about it. Thank you!

Sounds wicked to just play the man and see him in action. He created a difficult pawn structure to control for you, and took advantage of it. 2 of the biggest stress factors seemed to come out of this specific. A good thing to look out for pins and pawn disorders when playing him again, if you ever get the chance. But overall you did real well, in my opinion. I mean, it is Karpov after all. Just playing a former world champion can be nervewrecking.

19...g5 was very attacking against someone like Karpov! When you played it were you hoping he'd take it, then trade bishops so you could bring your rook onto g6 bearing down on his king?
It probably weakened the defence around your king which was ultimately too exposed in the last few moves.

I wanted to make room for my king to stay out of back rank tactics and yeah I was hoping he would take the pawn. I figured if I just sit around and try to defend everything it would end really poorly so I wanted to try something.
