Concerning the game i submitted for the previous show (position after a3) I had a similar position twice before and played f5-f4. booth times. In thoose games I lost  to higher rated opponets and both times i was  told that f4 was a mistake.  For this reason i concluded that f4 was a strategic error and i did not play it. I actally had almost the same postition in an earlier round in the same tournament and was told that f4 was a weakening move and that the pawns where much better on e5 and f5. As my opponent was higher rated i assumed he understood such things better than me and thus i "learned" that f4 was bad. In this game i had a game that was very lopsided on paper and thoose games are often hard to play, as this game shows. I played very poorly and i think i tried to punish him prematurely.

Thank you for analyzing my last game Jesse. Heres a game I played in the US recently ... 60 minutes with 5 seconds delay

Thank you Jesse for your analysis. I was able to score 5/5 in my last tournament, so I only have won games. This is a win against an FM I had in the tournament in a 90 minute 30 second increment match. I'm grateful for your help. I was able to put on a very strong performance on my last tournament for the year.

I had no business getting a draw in this game. I didn't play the opening or middlegame well, then my opponent made a blunder in the endgame that allowed me to win a piece, although he had two passed pawns as compensation. I think the endgame was winnable, but of course I didn't find a way to win, then I got lucky when my opponent missed a forced mate. This is an OTB game played in Round 3 of a quad at a chess club in NJ. My opponent is a high school boy. The time control was 55 minutes, with a 5 second delay.

I don't know whether I should feel pleased that I got a half point out of nothing or ashamed that I played so poorly.

I thought the idea was the club was for general chat and banter, while the threads on the general discussion forum would still be where we submit games. Hopefully Jesse will look at both this time.

Not only am I confused about chess, I am even confused about where I am supposed to post things.

I enjoy your games, Paul. I've also learned that a good part of playing good chess has to do with confidence. happy.png
