Most of games in Teams are too short

Played a dozen of games in 4 Player Chess Teams today. Most of games are just 2 (!) to 10 moves long. I thought it is a problem of new players (1100 to 1250). But here is an example of a game where blue was 1516 and green 1328. Blue resigned on the 4th move.

1. h2-h3 .. b6-c6 .. g13-g12 .. m8-l8
2. e2-e3 .. b10-c10 .. Qh14-e11 .. m4-k4
3. Qg1-i3 .. Na10-c9 .. Qe11xNc9 .. m9-l9
4. Qi3-i8 ..

(I recommend to use this analysis board:

You can copy/paste the moves to the memo-field and click "Load pgn4".)

Green just made useless and meaningless moves (except the first one). Blue (1516) was playing like he never seen this opening before (when both red and yellow queens become active on the 2nd or 3rd move).

I hope that this game example will help new players to find better opening moves for blue and green.

Teams loses sight to the game of overcoming what’s been placed before you like a regular game, and I happen to like the setup regular chess is though find 4 player better or can be because the vast space opened with more to recognize and 2 additional players you have so much more to keep an eye out or suffer pretty quickly for missing anything being displayed or maybe further into it.

4 player in many ways increases your acknowledgment to what’s possible in original chess, a lot more to recognize because this great game..

perfect play by red team should always lead to a game that is in that range of moves. The initiative of both moving first is far too much. the other team is on the defensive from the start and should never have a chance to recover.

It would change the strategy significantly but balance things out if teams were R+G vs B+Y.

Agree, would be an interesting variant

I agree that R+G vs B+Y would be an interesting variant.

However the current variant is also good. Yes, R+Y have an advantage in the opening. But if B+G survive the first 10 moves they can counterattack.

I expected players to discuss this game, find blue's and green's mistakes, suggest alternate moves. This is a constructive and productive way.

If you will stay on position like "R+Y always win." then you'll lose every time you play as B+G. And also will lose many games as R+Y, because other people can survive as B+G (they did their homework).

The game is evolving, nowadays games between strong players tend to last much longer.  Proper defense has been discovered aginst red'and yellow attack.   Just learn to play the game happy.png        Red and yellow do not always win.  There are way for blue and green to play that make the game extremely complexe, chaotic,  and basically too complicated for anyone to fully understand at this point in time.

I must say that from 9 or 10 games I played today only 2 games were very short (5 moves or less).

Played a short game in a team with JL1614 (I was yellow, he was red.) It was sharp and nice. When JL1614 checked green, I captured green knight and knew it is very risky, but could not predict we will checkmate blue just 3 moves later.
