if Voldemort didn't 'choose Harry to be his equal' Harry wouldn't have had any special powers like speaking to snakes. In one of the movies, Snape says he didn't display any talent even though Harry was very Brave and fearless.

the only reason harry killed Voldemort was because he disarmed Malfoy who was the real owner of the elder wand, the elder wand belonged to harry so when Voldemort tried to kill him he killed himself. It also says harry wasnt really special, he was lucky. Voldemort killed snape because he thought he disarmed dumbledore so he could have the elder wand. Snape didn't even try to fight.
