Move Evaluation (i.e. Move Quality)

Is there any information regarding the logic behind how the game review calculates the following:

  • Brilliant (!!)... I think there's an article on this but it doesn't mention the others.
  • Great (!)
  • Good (checkmark)
  • Inaccuracy (?!)
  • Mistake (?)
  • Miss (X)
  • Blunder (??)

I think Best and Book are self evident and depends on engine depth and book being used.

I think that brilliant moves are when a sacrifice that is the best move is played, and great moves are when there is one clear best move. A miss might be failing to play a brilliant or great move.

I’m not sure about the others.

I didn't expect the exact calculation would be shared... but I'll keep looking for public info like the article you shared. Thanks.

It's going to also vary player to player based on rating that determines expectation. A brilliant move for an 800 rating might be a good move for 1200 rating. Notes on this are mentioned in article cited above and it's more than likely your most reliable and thorough source on this.
