Last photo is the current game I'm playing with my house mate. We place a pawn, from a different set I have, on the opponents side after we've made our move. This way we can keep track of  turns.

Very nice pieces, particularly the bishops and knights are wonderful! (Is there a crown on the horse's foreheads?)

Thanks! Yes, both the king side rooks and knights have a red crown stamp. My favorite piece is the short and chubby rook. The look is fitting for a piece that plows down ranks and files.

It looks like a nice compact set of pieces except for one thing.  I would never buy pieces that have stamps on their top; definitely not my choice.

It's a replica. The original 1849 Staunton sets have king side stamping.

Ah, only one of each knights and rooks is stamped, to mark which is king- and which is queenside??

Never seen or heard that before - but I find it a nice feature ... happy.pngthumbup.png

Very very nice.

Very nice. Is that a 55mm or 58mm (i.e. 2.25") board?

Ah. o.k., then I missed what you referred to, and I apologize ... (I also delete my above comments, which luckily is always an option here ... happy.png)

Thanks. The squares are 50mm.

OK. So my 55mm board should work well with this set.

No ham taken Ammer. I was referring to the guy that did not like the stamps. He was acting like it would be a distraction playing with those red stampings. Some people cannot say anything without making a dumb comment. Those stamps are on the original sets. It would not be a repro if they were not there.

What a dump response. The OP responded the stamp is there to be faithful to the original design which is understandable. However, if you don't like other people expressing their aesthetic preference, then simply move on. No need to insult people because they don't like your whatever... Grow up and stop behaving like an 8 year old child who feels somebody has questioned his favorite toy.

Your over the top reaction is not doing any good here. Turning the atmosphere bitter and insulting in this thread can only hurt the manufacturer of these pieces.

Nice! Is this from House of Staunton?

Board looks very much similar to a discounted board I got from them. For 25 usd as good as you can expect, but the finishing a little rough. I sanded it down with 400 and 1000 grit sandpaper and gave it a linseed oil finish. Looks a lot more “expensive” and feels super smooth. (polyurethan spray or shellac could be another option too.)

Sounds like the same board. I got it on sale from HoS as well. The chess set is from Chess Bazaar, though. I picked up the set during CB's new year sale.

I have the same board but without the notations. Nice set by the way!

Very nice.  I have the same set in 4.4" club size, for a 2.5" board.  I debated getting it in the classic 3.75" like you, I think that's a bit more authentic, but already had a set in that size.

Excellent pictures by the way...!
