I post this for anyone (especially those not in North America) who wants to know about me and my quiet life in Alabama.

Every morning I take a casual walk in my yard to see what is going on in regards to my flowers and grass and trees and birds and whatever else I can see. So here are some thoughts from today:

Hot again. Back to mid July temperatures - high expected for today is 97 ( 36 C). Also returning to dry. Those small showers from three days ago have disappeared. Grass will need to be mowed in the next 4 or 5 days.

Flowers doing so-so. I need to divide the Coreopsis in that pot. That is the pot that spent last winter in my garage, so if I divide them flowers now it will mean two more pots in the garage this coming winter. But I need about two more flowers in posts to fill in since I have a new wooden wheelbarrow display/decor piece in the yard.Β  I should post a few pictures.

And I still need to divide one of the Coneflowers in front of the porch. I was gonna do that when the weather got to be less hot and dry.

More later - probably tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures of my front yard showing what I mean when I talk about wheelbarrow flower displays or yard decor.

Flowers and wheelbarrow

and

New Wheelbarrow That I Made

For this new wheelbarrow, I copied an old wheelbarrow that I saw in a museum. Now I want to sell this one so I can make a new and better version.

Gonna be hot and dry again today. I hope those rabbits don’t eat anymore leaves off my Coneflowers. There is probably time before winter for a lot of the leaves to grow back if I keep them watered and the rabbits leave them alone. If all is well the coneflowers will return come next Spring.

I see three or four pieces of bark under the oak tree. That means that Pileated Woodpeckers have been working on one of the old dead limbs.

I love Pileated Woodpeckers. They are one of my two favorite wildlife photography subjects, along with Bald Eagles. Seeing Pileateds in my yard is a special treat – a big event. That happens only about once or twice a year.

I still need to divide up those Coreopsis and Coneflowers. I wonder when the weather will cool off?

And I need to sell that latest wooden wheelbarrow yard/flowerbed décor so I can build another one. I don’t have room for three or four, but if I can sell the newest one I can build and better version of the same. I have it listed on facebook Marketplace.

Well I have no more suet food to put out for the birds, but I do have plenty of birdseed for the three seed feeders. Maybe I need to save what I have for the coming winter. Birds have plenty of food in nature now.

All for today….

Finally got the Coreopsis and Coneflower divided on Tuesday the 18th.

Got a severe thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon.

On my stroll on Thursday I see that a large limb blew off the big oak tree yesterday. About 25 feet long and 5 inches in diameter at the big end, This limb will have to be cut up with my chainsaw. Gotta figure out what to do with the wood. I already have a pile of limbs from trimming two of the other trees. Might end up burning it all but might be able to cut it into small pieces and put it in the garbage for pickup. That would be a long slow process.

Monday the 25th - still have a lot of limbs/brush to dispose of somehow.

Seeing more bark peeled off the big oak tree by Pileated Woodpeckers. I saw one of them a few days ago but did not get a photo. Probably need to mow some grass today. Want to walk 2 miles this morning. Did get the apple tree fertilized.

All is going well.
