I don't find this an obstacle to using pawns in this role.
If this variant is declined, I'll continue to work on it, as I believe it's one of the most promising I have ever created.

hahahahaha +100000000000 for the name (but seriously its too long, consider changing it to something like "Grave Danger" or "Unceremonial Unearthing" or Cemetery Battle), but I don't like the rooks and the unmovable pawns, I think they should be replaced with kings and knights and bishops (unmovable pawns is not a problem if you can find a way to make them interesting, i.e. stalemate possibilities, which is too difficult in this position to be feasible. The bigger issue is that unless the concept is changed, the game is too similar to minesweeper... try to make something that sets it apart, while also fixing the too-advanced promotion rank, the useless pawns, and the name. An example of this would be making promotion 4th or 5th = Dabbaba, and change the name to "It's Alive!" or "Grave Reanimation", and changing the pawns to dabbabas or something. Alternately, change unblocked pawns to knights, promotion 7th or 8th = Wildebeest, and change the name to "Grave-Hopping". Or you could just implement one of your own ideas to make the position unique. Great idea
