Hello everyone, I am new and I've been teaching my son how to play and I hit a road block when explaining the opening principle occupy the center, if black gives you d4 and e4 why or why shouldn't you take both of these squares as white and is there an opening name or thread related to this topic.  I know there are good options for d4 and e4 on they're own but if you can play both moves should you?

Hi, I'm 60 and new to chess but love it. I've never played another person but played the computer a lot. How do I find other beginner players to play against so I don't waste better players time playing against them? Thank you!

Hello everyone in Coach Bill's club!

I looked throughout the videos (I'm not sure how to search forums [I'm having trouble with forums in general--chess.com is working on finding the tech problem from their end].

My question is a REAL noob question.

Could someone PLEASE explain the time controls in chess?  I really don't know where to start. I checked wikipedia and YouTube.

Can anyone explain why sometimes if the game is 10 minutes,  for example, sometimes people get more time added to their clocks after a move?

Thank you so much.

Again, I'm a total noob.

No such thing as a dumb question, I've been told and have heard.

I think you're probably playing a game with time control of 10/2 or something similar where  the number after the / is the extra time added to each player's clock each time they move; if you are brand new, Coach Bill advises to play correspondence chess aka daily games so you're not rushed.

Hope this answers your question, if not, let's try again; also, watch the videos & do what they say, I've been here for a little and they help you play better if that's what you want.

I've been here for a while but I still have a question, is playing against the computer good for you ?
