Notes - Suggestion for Improvement

Hello Chess.com,

I have a suggestion for improvement regarding the notes for chess clubs and other such places where comments are made.

The way the notes are presented means I can miss notes if say im away for a week. I would like more flexibe control over reading these notes. Also be nice to know the notes I have read versus the ones I havent (maybe so I can see oldest unread notes in correct sequence to latest).

Could we have better ways to sort and filter messages. I might want to view all notes since x date, view all news since last read. View in order of oldest unread new newest (not the default newwest to oldest).

Thanks

Hi! I think https://www.chess.com/forum/category/suggestions would be a much better place to start a discussion about this! In this club we are focused on building tools for people to access Chess.com data, and suggestions for the website design might be missed.

I agree that people do seem to want to use the Notes section for a conversation, and that is a poor place to do that. It was invented for things like announcements, and calling attention to special events and such things — the forums have all the features you want, except that people don't use them for discussions!

bcurtis, appreciate the response. Thats interesting. If the forums do have the features im looking for, would it be better to drop notes and use forum for annoucnements? Am happy to put my previous and/or this suggestion into the forum for suggestions you shared above.

I will wait for your response/guidance before I follow up on this.

Notes are a prime platform for having many conversations in clubs, regardless of what the original intent of creating them was for. I agree with yogobija, there isn't even a link for notes in the club's panel/list of features/links. In V2 the notes were sectioned into page no's. It made it easy if wanted to jump back some pages to find a note to quote someone, or respond later to them. In V3 we have to click on MORE all the time and keep scrolling. It's not as efficient.
There is a reason people don't use the forums for discussions. It's not as instant/fast as speaking in notes. happy.png

This is the list I was referring to, that is missing a link for Notes.

Also on the chess.com app, there are no links to clubs.

I think this is useful feedback, but because it is here in the Developers Club, it won't really be seen by people who can consider it. I'm locking this thread so we don't misguide people into an off-topic discussion, but so that you can link to it from a new thread you can start in the "Feedback and Site Suggestions" forum https://www.chess.com/forum/category/suggestions

Thank you for the feedback and helping make Chess.com better!
