Ok, hear me out. (Blocking system)

Have you ever tried to join a game only to see a player has blocked you?

My main issue is the fact that some people block without a solid reason, and it affects my ability to join certain queues. Just now someone blocked me after getting 3rd place. This might sound like I'm just complaining, but this is just an issue for multiple people. I won't say who blocked me because that isn't allowed here.

you blocked someone a while back because they "allowed someone else to win" when all they were doing was trying to stop you from promoting...

To be honest I shouldn't have even blocked him for that, but this isn't the place to call out people.

Yeah. Some people have blocked me after I completely wrecked them in a game. So I also think that the ability to block may be detrimental. Although, what about the choice to block somebody who is genuinely rude?

At that point someone else is going to have to deal with that because players are just abusing the blocking system.

Honestly it doesn't really matter: someone you block now is probably someone whom you'll never play with for another week, and by then neither of you remembers the incident where you blocked each other. At that point, it just becomes annoying to one or both players since they can't join a game because someone blocked someone else. The only real situation where you should block someone, imo, is if they consistently make mistakes (on purpose, to make you or someone else lose) or use swear words and/or other offensive language. There are the occasional cases where someone you block turns out to be a player who joins the next 5 queues and since the blocking system is already broken, you'll be seeing them quite a lot anyway. So my point is that no matter how much you try to restrict yourself or others from playing with each other, you'll always end up suffering in the end (however minimally it may be).

More than 50% of the blocks are coming from getting targeted or straight-up losing to someone.

Why don't you play anonymous games? Those who don't want to play with blocked players don't have to, and those who don't mind playing blocked players or blockers can play anonymous games and still get paired with them.

In fact at some levels blocking people is clearly counterproductive. I had maybe about 7 or 8 players blocked, and 1 year ago removed ALL blocks as the only real effect was that I had less games I could join. If you don't like someone, it's easy to mute his chat for instance or avoid cooperating with him, etc.

On the other hand, I know that some players blocked me, for this or that reason, and that's their right. Sometimes I still play with them in anon. games, so who cares. ONE player from Argentina wink.png whom all of you know blocked me 2 years ago simply because in a bullet game I played too fast and didn't follow (as I should've!) his mate attempt and he lost the Q because of me. Whereas in a bullet game you can blunder for 1001 reasons: don't see something, or make a premove, or are not focused on what your opp is doing right now, etc. It was stupid to block me for that, but it was still his right to be stupid.

This problem is real, and it's the reason why we only allow blocking for the most popular variants, where the player pool is not super small.

Many people do block for the wrong reasons, because they lost etc, and it really hurts matchmaking and is unfair to the blocked players who must wait longer to find games.

But there isn't anything we can do about it, except turn off blocking entirely, but that isn't fair to those who block for legitimate reasons.

A certain "PERSON" blocked me because i blundered in a teams game

You should be able to use these players to your advantage. 4pc is all about manipulation.

That certain player has had a 15-1 record against me in 1 min FFA in the last 2 months and complains about 3v1 when he misses obvious mates on the 5th move…

I usually block a lot of players in rapid, usually those players simply drop their rating after trying to use the same strategy repeatedly, so it gets rid of the problem quickly and I can unblock if they get better. When you have a player being toxic to you for their own mistakes, there’s not much you can do.

I can't tell you how many times I've had that happen to me, but I rarely block people.

Blocking is very important with a solo scoring system to remove players who don't take the game seriously enough to play for 1st. Why should our ratings be at risk because players dont have the patience, emotional stability or understand the simple rules properly to play for 1st when all other results lose.

You block people because they mate you, and talk a lot for someone who's so mediocre.

If you didn't act the way you did, you wouldn't get targeted and get mated so much.

You don't expose people here, keep your personal issues between you and him. No one else wants to see this.

He's the one that brought it up in the forums recently.

He's always complaining about the same things, but it's because of the way he is that he gets targeted and then goes around blaming players.  People need to grow a pair and play against everyone.

And you were the primary cause of that yourself LosChessquire.

It was a casual Arena that didn't mean anything.   Mating you was much more fun because of your rude PM's and abusive behavior towards players all the time.

Lol, do you even know what happened?

He knows exactly why I came after him, and why other players do as well.
