On The Lighter Side of ART....

What an interesting thing you brought up. All art is directly rooted in our feelings. It can make us feel emotions, change our opinions and just have a big impact on us. Another example of this, aside from just the element of humour, is political caricatures or comics. By using art only, we are deliviering a statement, an opinion, a feeling to the viewer. Art sure is an amazing thing!

Have a collection of cartoon books, some US, for example ' The Smithsonian Book of Comic Art' and Dick Tracey.
Also have some original drawings purchased from the artist, including some "Matt" cartoons from the UK Daily Telgraph, and some original "Alex" strips from the same newspaper.
Comic cartoon art is so under rated, but think attitudes to it are changing.

I agree with you two!...so much is communicated with just a simple curving line... even the Cartoons that have no words can make us laugh and relieve tension. (powerful medicine!)
every once in a while i like to break free of my serious "wild life" art world and draw a couple of silly pictures for greeting cards...(usually for family members)
I'm impressed that you have collected these items, Petitbonom!!
I'd like to bring up the subject of how Artists can create laughter... First one that comes to mind is Garfield...(i must admit having full collection of Garfield books that i read every single night when i was in my 20's...some of them 2 or 3 times!) (wish i still had them!!)
Here are some pictures of

early Garfield....and progressing to modern day!
