Online Blitz Rating Question

Am I correct in thinking that a player's OB rating is what will change for games played and it isn't based on the chess.com rating?

For example: a chess.com rating of 1600 but their OB rating is 2000
If that player wins, it's their OB rating that gets affected, correct?
so there's no immediate way of knowing a player's OB rating in these tournaments since all we see are their chess.com ratings?

ChessMasterGS

Correct: Sometimes I play against chess.com 2000+ players who I expect to have an equally high USCF rating but instead screw my rating instead (my fault for being provisional, lol)

Kowarenai

yes

there is an online rating for USCF, that is what changes... correct, there is really no way of knowing the rating of the people you are playing unless you have already tied their SN back to their actual name on USCF (perhaps by knowing them personally, or playing them in a tournament before)

Martin_Stahl

Correct, US Chess doesn't know anything about the Chess.com ratings.

There isn't an easy way to see a player's US Chess ratings, though there is a TD club on site that has a listing of all verified members with open accounts, which could be used to manually look up people if you really wanted.

iceblastor,

Your USCF online blitz and quick ratings will be affected. No, there is no way to know what these are for online players. Chess.com ratings will also be affected. No OTB ratings will be affected. Hope that helps.

Thanks fellas! I recall playing terrible in the last tournament and I expected my OB to drop since I know I lost to a 15 and 16 or 17 chess.com rated player but surprisingly, my OB went up..? 🤷🏻‍♂️
but my chess.com rating took a massive beating.

probably since either you beat high OB rated opponents, maybe that 15/16/1700 rated player had a higher OB rating than you thought

The USCF keeps up 6 ratings for you: 3 OTB (regular, quick, blitz) and 3 Online (regular, quick, blitz). The tournaments here are seeded with chess.com ratings but affect both your chess.com rating and one of the 3 online USCF ratings. If you are playing in your first online tournament, your rating is started as provisional with 5 games at the closest USCF rating you have to the event you are in.

Forgive me, I'm new here - so when playing in a USCF Tournament on here, your chess.com rating won't change, just your USCF rating correct?

Both Ratings will change

Close, the USCF keeps 7 ratings for you: 3 Over the Board, 3 Online, and Correspondence. (As shown in post 4 of this thread.)
