It's good for white but you're not going to get it often because the Petrov is already a decently rare opening

It seems like the majority of my games are either the Petrov or some sort of Italian game, but maybe it’s because I play bishop’s opening almost exclusively as white

The Bishop's opening is actually designed to avoid the drawish Petrov lol

Huh, I have no idea why it happens then. I think most people bring out the knight to stop a potential scholar’s mate, then I’ll bring out my knight to go for a knight attack.

 

it’s odd because this is an incredibly common position I get into. The only other variation I really see is:

which seems to be good for black

My book says that the Bishop's opening allows transposition into the Vienna or the King's Gambit as it allows the F pawn to move as nf3 blocks it, so white isn't required to play nf3 after nf6

That's why I stopped playing e4, way too many choices for black to play. I can just play my Catalan or Colle against basically anything and have fun instead of memorizing 15 moves of Caro prep

What is white supposed to do after this? Engine suggests h4 and bc4 but I dont get it
