Play hippo against everything is the easiest to learn

You know...actually playing a system/pawn formation like the hippo is not such a bad idea. It avoids a lot of theory, the ideas are pretty much the same against everything and it is solid.

Probably the only drawbacks would be lack of opening knowledge possibly hurting you later if you switch openings and also how the hippo doesn't seem too forcing to the opponent and White can employ whatever setup they want. Other than that, this seems like a decent idea grin.png

So I play the Slav against d4 it works well and I play caro against E4 though recently I have been thinking bout changing to a more spicier opening against E4 any recommendations and if yes where can I learn them from also pls don't recommend sicillian I don't want to learn it maybe I will in future

Typically players seeking a "spicy" opening versus d4 would choose to switch INTO something like the Slav Defense. Perhaps you are playing some tame sideline or something? The Slav has some really sharp and spicy lines to choose from!

If you want something with little theory vs d4 and something "spicy" then perhaps look into the QGD: Cambridge Springs or the Dutch Defense, or something slightly more off-beat.

I want spice against E4 not d4 lol

Caro is fine unless you want to become titled I think. And even then, the caro is a solid choice

Changing opening is quite difficult lol

If you like the Caro, openings you might like are the French (1. e4 e6), Scandinavian (1. e4 d5), and perhaps the Nimzowitsch (1. e4 Nc6)
