A new chess application for the iPhone has been released: Papaya Chess (link opens iTunes). The app is made by a company called PapayaMobile. I tried to grasp the concept of Papaya Mobile's main product, which seems to be some kind of social networking program, but couldn't quite get the hang of it from the descriptions on the site. Apparently PapayaMobile has created a series of games, one of them being Chess, that can in some way integrate with their social networking program. However, according to the app's description, one does not need to be a registered member of anything to enjoy playing with online opponents. If my understanding of the documentation is correct, you can also play against a friend that has PapayaChess on their iPhone in LAN mode.
