Petrified Piece Values and Strategies?

Queen - 7

Knight/Rooks - 5

Bishops - 3

Pawns - 1

I like knight more than rooks because it jump over walls. Sometimes the Queen is useless when all the files and diagonals are blocked (which is very rare).

Some Strategies:

  • Allow your opponent to capture your pieces. It will gain time for you.
  • Bishops are the second weakest piece after pawns. Always try to exchange them.
  • Blockade a passed with a king/bishop.
  • Try to block files with the bishop.
  • Try to stop a capture if it blocks your pawns.
  • Also note that Petrified variant is drawn if 1 player moves only his pieces.

Strategy: draw

lower rated draws higher rated to gain rating

which make it queen:0

rook:0

knight:1(hope for opponent blunder)

pawn:10(when it becomes a stone)

All in all petrified is trash still lol

there are like a thousand way of drawing it

I mean, all the other piece are basically useless except for knight and pawn

(unless one side just simply wants to go for the win...)

strategy liquidate your pawns first then have pieces work around them. if possible, bring you queen close to enemy king

Still draw

lol

queen is really useful because it can keep harassing king. it can taking adjacent pieces

Um not really

One side can just a4 b4 c4 d4 e4 f4 g4 h4

just change the order to whichever square the queens, bishops and knights want to move to

what would you change to make it better? The fatal capture idea was kind of a sideline.

Can you think of a starting position that would make the game better? with fewer or no pawns and more queens? or 5th rank promotion, or something?

the_chess_child

Make all pawns queens except d2 and e2?

spacebar

or changing the rules, for example: pawns don't die. or pieces capturing pawns survive?

This looks good

i think the best idea is to have a custom number set for petrified.

for example, the default petrified could petrify your pieces for 3 moves after it captures, and then unfreeze after the third move, but in the custom lobby you would have the option to set it to whatever you want. it could unfreeze after 1 move, 2 moves, or infinite.

Or maybe when a piece captures how many times

like when a queen captures a pawn and a knight it become a wall

still your idea is better tho

Your idea can work with fatal capture actually, when the opponent captures a piece it become dead for a set number of moves and you must capture the dead piece to completely get rid of the piece

the main problem with Petrified imo is that pawns are useless (they get blockaded by stone often), so maybe adding sideways pawns (maybe torpedo as well) will help?
