Playing the position instead of the opponent: Pacific_Victory VS. GM Nakamura

I'd like to share my recent game with new chess.com member GM Hikaru Nakamura. I played white.

I haven't done any computer analysis on the game, but the most interesting part I think was move 43, where Hikaru, who was apparently having a lot of trouble trying to play on his phone left a rook hanging only 2 squares from my queen.

Not only did I not take it, I didn't even see it until Hikaru sent me a message explaining his phone troubles. It hadn't occured to me to look for hanging pieces while playing someone as strong as Naka.

I think it really highlights the importance of playing the position, rather than the opponent.

As a sidenote, this game is of course far below Hikaru's actual strength, he played every single move instantly, while I spent time with my analysis board.

I'll come back later with some updated computer analysis of the game, as well as my own personal anotations, if anyone is interested.

I would be honored to have even played him, or any master for that master.  I've only played a titled player once--a NM in an 11-game OTB simul, which I won (to my profound shock).  Playing a GM online like that...well, I guess I just have to keep playing Live Chess until I get lucky Laughing

Power-Up

Dude, that's awesome!

I can't believe he took the pawn. I figured he'd prefer the closed game.

Good job!
