Pls help my delusional friend

Guys one of my friends has been watching the nba for only the last 3 szns and he claims to be an nba fan but he still only has current ball knowledge. He knows absolutely nothing about nba history, meaning literally anything past the 3 szns that he’s watched. He has the horrendous idea that you don’t need history knowledge to be a fan, only current. To put it into perspective, he didn’t know who Clyde drexler, pau gasol, or Manu ginobili were, just to name a few. How do I convince him that he needs to study up or subtly help him obtain at least minimal ball knowledge?
