Poll: Fast Moves or Fast Thinking?

This is a poll for Hyperbullet/Bullet/Blitz players.
First off, let me rephrase:

  • I am putting Hyperbullet, no increment Bullet, and no increment Blitz (e.g 30 sec, 1 min, 4 min) under the umbrella of Fast Moves. This is because they require premoving, at least in the endgame.
  • I am putting increment Bullet, and increment Blitz (e.g 1|2, 3|2) under Fast Thinking. This means that while harder to flag because of the increment, you are forced to play more hurried and potentially irrational moves because of time trouble.

So, which set of time controls do you prefer playing?

React with thumbup for Fast Moving

React with thumbdown for Fast Thinking

And please don’t clutter the comments section with complaints about server issues, this poll can apply to Standard 2 Player Chess as well happy.png

I actually prefer the latter because, while I do like the aspect of flagging people that I don't like and checkmating them in the most brutal ways possible in no increment games, I prefer learning how to play ffa with other high level players, even if I don't have the time to think about every single move I make, because either way, I still learn something during the game.

I think zero increment time controls are perfectly good for public games, yet entirely unnecessary and probably a poor idea for arranged matches, or matches amongst friends.

My experience is 99% in 2PC... but this is universally applicable, I think: for public games where strangers are involved, I don't want someone to have enough time to consult with anyone/anything. I really dislike it when people take too long to move, and certain people ALWAYS take 3 seconds to make every single move. I want to beat them on time when I know I can't beat them over the board.

That said, I've played a few games of daily chess and haven't run into any problems, but my rating is still provisional, so we'll see.

If the game is amongst friends, or otherwise pre-arranged, then using increments in time controls is an excellent option. I actually like using delay time controls the most when it comes to 4PC. I'd choose 1m|10sd, 3m|10sd for delay, or go with interval: 1|1, 2|1, 3|2, 5|3, 10|15, etc.

As a general rule of thumb, keeping the total game time under 10 minutes is a good idea, and crucial if there's ever going to be people sitting out/waiting, which I know is an issue in 4PC.

4/0 is by far my favorite for 4pc.

I usually play 2|10 Teams, and often I play 2P variants (like Gothic) at 5|2.
