It looks to me like 12. ... Bd7 would allow Black to avoid a huge material disadvantage

This one is interesting. There are errors but the sacrifices are fun and a position that has every relevant pinned or tied down.

Yea at one time I thought I was going to win, but it just didn't happen.

I lost the game against the same opponent when I have blk and he had white. 

My best game ever

My best game ever was played in the early 1980's against a mr. Spaans. He was old enough to be my grandfather. I have always wanted to play a game like grandmasters did, a perfect game. logical from the beginning till the end. This game below is the only one that measures up to this standard. Even though the computer has some critical remarks, on the whole this is truly a gem. And it's a positional game, not one with lots of sacrifices. Even thoug three exchanges were sacrified in this game.

Yep the problem with not playing d4, is that the queen lacks good squares and, as a consequence, the queenside rook won't enter the game. Nice game Elroch.
