After that crazy tournament, the league Chess season has started. I began the season with a relatively easy win against an old guy who used to be high rated.

I included some moves I remember thinking seriously about during the game.

This is just a reminder, as GM Melik said this time my game would be analysed (hopefully:))

This is my recent 120|5 game with Johnathan Rasberry, an 18 year old American with 1955 USCF rating.  I played the second and tactical phase of the game (begun with 16. ... Qg5) perfectly and all my moves are 1st or 2nd Stockfish's choices but had some problems with the first phase. First, I'm not familiar with the varition of KID which my opponent played with Bd3 and Nge2, could you tell us about its main ideas? Second, a criticl moment was after 13.f4. Then, I didn't consider 13. ...e4 seriously, because I thought that after that d4 and possibly e6 became strong outposts for White's knights. To my surprise, 13. ...e4 is Stockfish's top choice. Could you explain the possible position after 13. ...e4?

 Thanks!

So my SECOND tournament ever, after the one I posted previously. Recently I have been playing a lot of Chess!

The last one I played was a very small event with maybe 8 or 9 people in the U1700 section I was playing in, where I came 3rd. This one was a much bigger and more serious tournament. I made a decision to back myself and play up in a higher section, I could have played U1600 and a lot of people were telling me I should because I would have a good chance to win it. Anyway I ignored them and boldly backed myself to play U1800s. I was hoping for 2.5/5 to be honest.

In the end I WON IT. Ha Sealed

Amazingly at this point I was already guaranteed at LEAST joint 1st, being the only person on a clear 4/4 and no one was on 3.5.

Unfortunately this had a pretty bad psycholigcal impact as I really felt the tournament was over and just wanted to go home. Anyway you can't skip a final round game (obviously!) so I showed up and played anyway, but from the half hearted effort I put in on the board I may as well not have bothered:

In spite of this loss I still came 1st (on tiebreaks) and even get prize money and what not. Pretty awesome! Winning U1800 only 2.5 years into playing Chess is much more than I ever expected. It was a big field as well, something like 40 participants in my section and the tournament overall must have been 150-200 people. Unfortunately the prize giving was due to be so much later in the evening I chose not to stick around for a picture of me holding the cup or I'd have that to post as well, but it is being sent to me. Actually although the tournament has a rule that you can only receive "one" prize, if I had not come 1st I would have got the Grading prize because I was U1600 (not anymore!). There was also a prize for the best performing local player which also was me. Shame you can't win more than one because actually it would have added up to quite a nice sum.

This was also a 30|0 time control. I will see if I can go to the next Melik and Me showing time, when is it btw? If I cannot be there, I will watch the reccording on twitch later.

another of my OTB games (90mins + 30mins after move 40 and +30s/move from move 1). Now with lower rated oponents, but this game would be one of my favourite if my oponent did not blundered his queen in the end. Most of all I would love to know if you think my plan in the end to make my pieces a bit better and than go to queen side would have been enought.

Thank you. :)

A game I played online in one of GM Yermo's simuls. The time control was 30+30, and I played the philidor opening, and getting a pawn advantage in double rook endgame. I am not sure if this Nc5-Nfd7-Nb6 is the correct idea, as I tend to do this all the time. Therefore I was wondering when is this not the right idea? Also I have been struggling some times when the bishop comes to g3 and makes it harder for me to take on d4. However, it worked out in this game.

Live game on ICC, 15|0

another interesting game.

Hi,

I have two games for the next show. The first one is my 30|30 game with my friend and 15 year-old year Fide Master APL2001. I liked the game which went crazy and I sacrificed a whole rook, however, in the end I lost. As always, I'm interested in knowing more about the opening part and the usual middle game plans in this stucture

Faarian

The second game is 90|30 game with a staff Jonathan Cannon or JD. At the time I played the game, I wasn't familiar enough with the opening (e3 or Smyslov varitation against KID), but during the game I managed to find good moves. I thought I played a good game, but at two moments I made a mistake. The first was 17. ... Bxc5. then I calculated many different varition correctly, just didn't consider the simple and strong move 18. Nfg5. So, i had a problem with my calculating skill. After the mistake, I responsed well until 33. ... Rd1+ Then I had just about 5 minutes, so couldn't calculate well. So just made a risk and tried to become aggresive after such a long time of defending. It didn't work. Anyway, I'd like to know more about the variation of KID and different ideas for Black.

Thanks!
