Probably this club should be renamed

We have many users coming here and trying to get help with all sorts of chess.com bugs.

All of them gets the same response: "post it somewhere else, read the rules, this club is not for that".

I think this is happening only because people are trying to contact chess.com developers, so they search for it and first they find is this club because of the name.

I understand that the current name covers exactly what this club is about, but it is confusing for non IT people and it just generates a huge noise and disappointment for chess.com members.

Maybe a different name like "Chess.com API Community" would be better. Or something else, I am sure others can come up with a name that developers can find when looking for a forum for the API and not other users who are looking for IT help or contact the chess.com developers.

Also, I do not want to turn off the notifications, because every now and then, there are relevant and great forum posts here, we just need to filter out the noise to catch them.

Anyway it is just a suggestion that I wanted to raise. Hoping we can avoid the daily/weekly "this is not the right place" messages. happy.png

The purpose of this club is explained in the private description we all see when we open the home-page:-

.

In the interest of making this club useful to newcomers and developers building cool new stuff, off topic notes and forum posts may be removed.

  • API bug reports and suggestions are encouraged! Please post in the club forum.
  • Website bug reports are off-topic. There is a bug-report tool in the "Help" menu in the navbar.
  • Website suggestions are off-topic. These are better in the Feedback & Suggestions forum.

.

Trouble is, that's only visible to people who've already joined because it's not included in the public description! That doesn't make a lot of sense because I'd have thought it better to warn potential applicants before they join the club?

I also get the sense from many threads here that quite a few 'younger' members have crept in and may not fully understand that this club is meant to be a serious platform for adults to discuss tech.issues surrounding the API.

Yeah it actually makes sense. I got here looking strictly for APIs, and having it be displayed with those terms instead of a broader name such as developers might help both people trying to access the APIs and people who want tech support from the app.

I am 76 years old and consider myself an adult. I would mention that many 'younger' members are more attuned to technology, including coding than one would suspect. I know you did not mean it to be an insult Stephan, so I am just sayin.

It's unquestionably true that there're some very tech-savvy youngsters in this club and it's what it was set up to do but what I had in mind was some of the more childish, immature remarks posted in the club's notes.

Some of them look like they've been posted by ten year olds although haven't seen any more recently.

Hmmm, I'm 11 years old, and I've just realized that there are people my age who are better at programming than I thought. Me and a friend of mine (both programming) once created a chess site (no offense to chess.com, just testing my skills). Um... I guess there are a lot of kids who are programming savvy. But I admit that there are far too many children who are childish. I don't care about age, and I think it's low to mute (or banish, ban) people who make childish or abusive remarks. Um... I also think this club should be a serious club.

There are many strange parts by Google translation... If there is something you don't understand, please tell me.
