It's not their fault though. Sometimes when you try to do maths of other science problems, animals just pop up :) (mostly science-hating bears and elephants)

It is sloppy for the writer of the problem not to have said  "You may assume that no large mammals obstruct the path of the object". Without this information, the problem is clearly indeterminate.
