Classic chess, but any piece (except for the king and queen) is turned on the 7-8 ranks.
The pawns are transformed on 8 ranks for White (1 for Black) into a knight, bishop, rook or queen.
The rook turns into a cannon (the cannon moves like  rook + knight)
The bishop turns into an eagle (the eagle moves like bishop + knight)
The knight turns into a general (the general moves like  king+knight)

though I never heard of it, this is what most of those new variants suggestions are, just a small variation of another established one,

like I know once in a while a new and amazing variant is thought of, but if chess.com actually made every one of those "new" variants, we would have a few hundred that are just laying there and not a single soul except for the one that gave the idea are willing to play it, making it just stupid to even think about it.

even the name for the knight promotion is exactly the same.

that's not quite right

I also thought of it, only that of course promotion is only on the 8th rank and the queen promotes up as well.

Queen NOT promotes. Look carefully rules

In Shogun a pawn promotes to a "general" which moves like a king but isn't a king.

Because there are drops like Shogi / Crazyhouse, when you drop a captured queen it is only a "duchess" or "ferz" but it will promote if it moves in the right area and if you don't have a queen already on the board at the time.
