Promoted queens should be worth +3 one move after the player has promoted

The current system of promoting pawns to 1 point queens is OP. For example, a player captures gray pieces with a pawn, and the remaining opponents cannot easily stop him from queening.

Therefore, promoted queens should be worth 3 points one move after the player has promoted the pawn.

What are your thoughts?

I'll just repeat the opinion I have expressed so many times already: pieces should be valued according to their mobility. Promoted queens have the same mobility as the original queens, so they should be valued the same. Anything else is wacky.

the problem is, though, that you want to have a fixed amount of "total points" in every moment of the game

Skeftomilos

@The-Lone-Wolf not so. Points are removed from the system when a player is eliminated (his pieces are losing all of their value). Also points are added to the system when a player double-checks (or triple checks). So currently the total amount of points is not fixed. But why should be?

The fundamental question is, which variation most improves the playing experience? I think from a theoretical perspective, a +9 promoted queen is the most logical.  However, this will mean that promoting a pawn now comes at a huge disadvantage: you are drastically increasing the number of points your opponents can accumulate.  This drastically reduces the tactical gains of pawn-promotion.  And currently, pawn-promotion is a huge driver of game progression... If no players are motivated to venture into the center, how many games will just amount to 100+ moves of four players arranging and re-arranging their defenses?

Skeftomilos

@kevinkirkpat good point. This is the best argument in favor of the one-point-valued queens I have heard so far.

It should just be like bughouse. Promoted queens should be +1.

I had a form where I suggested two to three points for a queen as well. The problem with +1 queen is that it is very hard to counterattack the +1 queen with your pieces when defending mate especially against two or more players attacking you. You give up both overall points and pieces. The increased amounts for the queens means deflecting an attack might still leave you fighting to win the game.
