Nobody would eat it (I hope), it is probably just getting caught by seiners accidentally. Incidentally, this is probably the ugliest thing I have ever seen...
I don't think it looks ugly. It reminds me of what would happen if a shrunk an old person. Speaking of collateral damage, see the youtube movie called that-it was posted by wikileaks.

it seem this picture was taken 1000 meters above its natural habitat...what would we look like in space without a spacesuit! Anyhow, a dead thing will never look at its best.
