Here is some puzzles from Polgar's book on tactics (the one with 5334 different puzzles). This book is very good because it not only has thousands of puzzles on tactics but it also has puzzles on the endgame and combinations. So all these are mates in two moves- you make a move and no matter what move the opponent plays you will be able to checkmate him on your second move.

Cool. They where really fun, had a lot of trouble with the 1st and the 5th.

For the first puzzle you said:

"If Black were to decline the sacrifice by 1...Kd6 then 2.Bd7 mates"

I think you meant 2. Bc5 mates. I would put the other variations in the move list.

Puzzle 4 needs a comment to say white to mate in 2. I wasted time looking for mate in 1. I think composed puzzles consisting of hypothetical positions should have a label saying the number of moves till mate for white/black.

Otherwise, a fine collection of puzzles.

Glad, you've enjoyed the puzzles. You are correct that Bc5 is the right move. And I tried to say that all of them are mates in two in the beginning paragraph. The reason I've posted these is because they all have the same theme. I don't think they are difficult but if anyone has problems solving them the theme and a BIG hint is "queen sacrifice."

I picked on the theme after the second puzzle. I found the first one difficult, just because I did consider sacrificing my queen at first. What is the name of Polager's book and is it worth buying?

I have also posted a couple of puzzles that I liked from some of chess books that I have. Have a look on my home area.

The thing about "Chess" by Laslo Polgar is that it's a huge book about 1000+ pages. You'll find about 300 mates in one, 3,400 mates in two, 1,700 mates in three, 600 miniature games, 140 simple endgames, 130 Polgar sisters' tournament combinations. And personally I feel that the puzzles are of high quality(at least the ones I tried already). But the one thing I personally don't like about this book is the fact that it's gigantic, weights about 3 or so pounds(makes me feel kind of geeky). But if you get past that, than this is defiantly a very good book and one of my personal favorites out of the dozen or so books I have. If you want to get it, you can for about $16 w/ shipping on Amazon but you may be able to find a better deal somewhere else.
