a) Example of a right answer: 2² = 4, and a square root is the opposite of a power(2). sqrt4= 2, but also -2, so 2=-2!
b) A quarter of a chessboard is a 4x4 square, that are 16 1x1 squares, are also 9 squares of 2x2, 4 squares of 3x3, and of course the 4x4 square. This are in total 30 squares

I'm not even part of this group, but I'm going to point out that the supposed 'right' answer to part a is wrong.
sqrt4 = 2, always, sqrt4 does NOT equal -2 ... that would have to be the NEGATIVE square root. Trust me on this. You are taking a much too general form of 'square root'.

I hope you read this, Nytik!
I hope you agree that if you do ´3 to the power 2´ that you get 9, and that the square root of 9 is 3. Why? Because 3² is 9!
You now deny that -2 x -2 is not equal to 4!!!

No, now I deny that sqrt4 is -2. Universally, when we square root something we always get the POSITIVE result. You have to apply a negative square root function to come up with -2.
Trust me on this one. It's all explained in maths degrees at university. (Possibly college, too.)

i get though a ´forgot´-sign at my test, when i give as solution to x²=4, x = 2. then i´m told that -2 is also an answer, in which i fully agree...
I think 2 cannot be equal to -2.It's not make sense in maths!!!
In your explanation,2 and -2 are the answers of the equation but they must not be equal!!!

yes, i know, it was one of those wrong redenations in my maths book, but it is nice to let people think about it!
ShiViChess gave two answers:
2*infinity=infinity and -2*infinity=infinity, so 2=-2 Actually correct!
2/0=0 and -2/0=0, so 2=-2 Wrong! You are not allowed to divide by 0, think about that!

Actually, all problems that say that two different numbers are equal to each other have something wrong with them...for example, you used the fact that every number has a square root and a negative square root because of the rules of multiplication, and I used the fact that infinity is used to represent every number that is so big that is doesn't have a name and not just one number, and the fact that you can't fit two apples in the space where there is no room for anything.
Ok, to think about a good problem is hard for me...
a) Can 2 be equal to -2? Explain your answer!
b) How many squares has a quarter of a chessboard has?
I know, it are two simple problems, but though think about it!
