I wanna play like Grischuk. Any advice?

Kohnar

@DerekTal86 , you could research his games which you may find from the learn tab on Chess.com's website!

Does every state have rated OTB tournaments? I'm from North Dakota.

Kohnar

@Jonathanmaier Yes they do! http://www.uschess.org/tlas/upcoming.php?STATE=ND

There doesn't look like there is any smaller tournaments right now but keep checking back!

can we get more club vs club games going? for so many weeks now there has been the same 3 open matches pending to fill up by the opposing team and for so many weeks, the numbers have not moved at all. I have not seen other club matches proposed either.

Over the last few months I hosted online Chess.com tournaments for my local club.  When I first did it, I set them up for 5 round Swiss tourneys and we ended up playing 5 rounds (time control G10+2).  Then I tried an 11-round Blitz (G3+2), but the tournament ended after 4 rounds.  Since then, no matter what I try (e.g., 6-rounds of G5+5, 5 rounds of G10+2), Chess.com always ends the tournament after 4 rounds.

I understand that for a number of players between 9 and 16 (which is the number that we always get for our tournaments) that 4 rounds is sufficient to determine a tournament winner, but why did Chess.com allow us to play 5 rounds (they allowed this more than once, too) a month ago when we had the same number of participants?

Has anyone else run into this problem of Chess.com changing the number of rounds from what the tournament was set up for?

Thanks for any helpful thoughts,

JP

The maximum number of rounds will be determined by the starting number of players. To get 5 rounds you need at least 10 players. For 11 rounds you need 22.

So, no matter how many rounds you set up at the begining, if the starting number of players is not twice that number, it will reduce the rounds to the number/2 rounded down. I believe there is a minimum of 5 players, and in that case it may do 3 rounds, but I'm not certain.

Hi All,

Are there still daily online-rated US Chess tournaments going on? How do I find out if there's one tomorrow, for instance? The schedule inhttps://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/tournament-schedule hasn't been updated since 2015, and I only see a club match for this Sunday on the USChess chess.com club website.

Thanks so much,

Oren

@orenlivne try this https://www.chess.com/club/uschess-members-only and look at the upcoming events tab.  Does that have what you're looking for?

The schedule on the Members Only club is current and will always have the up to date schedule on the first post.

Is there a way to increase your rank on your state leaderboards online?

On www.uschess.org/datapage/leaderboards.php there are some online categories.

Here in this club grin.png

There are other affiliates running online games as well, here and other sites. ICC also has events.

How do I get involved in matches, challenges and finding ways to improve my game. I seem to be on a plateau.

grymsailor

How do I respond directly to another post?

Would anyone be up for some practice games at 5|2 or 10|2 before this weekend's matches?
