Quick Scotch Gambit Tutorial

Hey all! Mark asked me a while ago if I could go over some things I know about the Scotch Gambit, and I said I'd put something up for the group. Now I'm no expert, not particularly highly rated, but I thought I'd share some of my understanding with you all. Also, the Scotch can transpose to other systems, such as the Two Knights and the like, but I'm just going to stick to the 5. ...Bc5 line of the Scotch for now

. Hope it helps!

For a pretty good explanation on the Scotch and all situations that can arise from it, I recommend Chess Openings For White, Explained by Lev Alburt, Dzindzi, and Eugene Perelshtevn.

Thanks for the attempt to inform, but I will only try this opening for fun.

I use to know so many openings, but you need an encyclopaedic brain to remember the wrinkles - and each wrinkle could kill you - so now I play the Sicillian against e4. Yes, I know, more wrinkles.... but eventually you get to master one system rather than......(too many to count)

How about 5...d5.

Good try - and I appreciate it, but the Scotch has been a mindfield for centuries and will continue to be so.
