The oldest annual marathon in Europe was established in 1924 in Košice, present-day Slovakia. The same year Boston Bruins became the first team from USA to enter NHL. Interestingly, first annual marathon in the world was in 1897, Boston, just one year after the introduction of the discipline at the Olympics. That same year Boston was also the first city in USA to get metro, The Tremont Street Subway.

Ah yes, and current captain of Boston Bruins is a Slovak Zdeno Chara.

A report on current events is called the News. N E W S comes from the old days when a ship would come to port and people wanted to know what was going on North East West & South. Thus, what is the NEWS ?

I am told this morning that the Monday after Super Bowl has more "call in sicks" than any other day of the year. It might be true. Traffic was really light on the road today.

Eratoshthenes measured the earths diameter in the days of the greeks and was off by under 1000 miles, and he only used 2 sticks in two cities and the shadows of those stick. He also measured the distance to the sun and was off by about 100,000 miles, using Trigonometry of the position of Venus our Moon and the Sun

Jacob, cool. I knew the first part about the Earth's diameter but did not know the part about the distance to the Sun. Thanks!

The Cincinnati Reds won the World Series in 1975 and 1976 (referring to Major League Baseball in the USA).  That is one of my favorite facts. In 1975 it was the Red Sox and in 1976 it was the Yankees (which I mainly had forgotten. 1975 stands out in my memory as the one World Series I deeply relished.)
