I am trying to post pictures but having trouble. Anyway Kidlat will post tons of pictures later.

To give you an idea of how tough the competition in Rapids, some of the gms like GM Darwin, GM Antonio and GM Jayson were eliminated early.

Wala bang crosstable o anything like pairings and results para naman may idea ang barangay kung paano ang progress ni Wesley mula umpisa hanggang maging kampyon? TY po. Gratz, kid.

Pasenysa na sir Iskubs. Masyado disorganized ang event. Ala ngang giant chessboard at score boards. It's even hard to track what's happening.

From our position, Reggie, William and I looking up the stage, we kinda guess who's winning looking vertically at the king's position and by the expression in the players' faces. hehe.

Add to the list GM Paragua who was eliminated by Dableo.

There was interesting side event nga pala. The winner of the masters invational Wesley has to face Pocket Fritz4 in another match.  The human will get 100$ if he wins. Sir Reggie with the pocket fritz in Ipaq, faces Wesley on the chessboard. Each side gets 10 minutes for the game. No increments.

In the first game, Wesley playing black engaged in tactics right from the opening and has to pay dearly. Wesley's queen was trapped.

Second game with white, Wesley learned his lesson and played a closed, positional game almost won.

We complained to Sir Reggie. It's unfair Wesley very tired and sleepless, low bat na. While Pocket Fritz still fully charged. hehe.

At syanga pala, me bagong hobby si Kapmgiz, photography. Bago equipment 120K lang.

Dami kinuha pictures. Akala namin ke Wesley, yun pala yung mga ladies players. acheche...

Abangan nyo ang labas sa chicks windows, este chess windows blog pala ni Rusticbull.

Good am mga ka-barangay,

Thanks andito pala mga kibitz on the topic, I commented kagabi dun sa forum on Wes' chess coach. Thanks for recapping the event.

Medyo mas natutok sa kiddies pero overall the organizers pulled it off with those 4 catagories and definitely there were over 100 boards in total (since yung giveaways ata umabot na sa 'first 200' who registered. Believe me, relatively in the local tournaments circuit this event was better handled and the organizer really spent. I think this was more on helping out chess, rather than conducting a chess event for business. I mean, compared to the CUC which was swamped with over 400 players in its sole event in Megamall they (Alex and IA Gene were there) and got many arbiters this time and imposed strict time control on the rounds. And hey they finished all the 7 rounds without reducing the time control of 30 minutes for Groups B,C,D. And nagka-awarding pa.

Darating din tayo duon, with the 'tournaments boom', maybe some organizers would start to consider tapping modern technology.

pinoymaster77

Sorry, a typo, time control was 20 mins for Groups B,C,D

Hahaha... grabe. Maybe the organizers will come up with it later on. TY

Impressive Prof. Joeyj. It's just like a chess blog and news. Keep up the good work at Pacland.

Hi Joeyj,

Went to the Pacland link, my first time and I'll include it now in the chess blogs circles I read. Thanks also for featuring that 'boom or bust' article sa chesswindows. Si editor Resty ang nag-coin ng title na iyon.... magkakaalaman niyan sa Subic sa June.

I talked to NM Carag who was head coach of that LSGH trip to Jakarta with Sta Rosa Tony Yu student Shania Mendoza as guest player, he says he expects the 'tough' players they met at the ASEAN Primary to have graduated. But my own reckoning nuong Nov lang yung Jakarta event so technically same schoolyear pa iyong mga kids na iyon and if we have the same school calendars, baka puede pa sila or pasok pa sa age requirements.

Anyway, it is already talk/buzz among chess parents/coaches there on how or who are going to Davao for the National Age Group in May, and also that NCA/Jesli Lapus in Apr 19 to 21 for NCR qualifiers. Also longshot for wildcard entry at Subic naman ay $100 ang entry fee, plus transport and meals/lodgings.

To kapmigz/sugardom,

Wow photography is also one of unfulfilled dreams/fantasies. 120k pala yung gamit na ganun. Well, kap can enrol in photography classes and seriously it can also be a revenue-generating hobby.

Eh kung malinya sa talent (showbiz) identification, sa sidelines lang po ako he he... mahigpit bantay...

Nangingiti iba diyan he he...

Thanks bro for the visit there @ Pacland!  you wrote the BOOM or BUST?  nice one!

visit us more often there @ share your thoughts too ... medyo take time nga lang  approval ng new user (about a week more or less) applicants there!  very strict kasi sila doon & marami na ban na IP addresses kaya check muna sila bago approve new usernames.
