1° I agree 100%, all fast games tend to be very similar in mind between Solo and FFA; in FFA people do not cooperate more than in Solo, and the spirit is totally different from normally paced games like 1/15. It's a matter of fact.
2° it's also 100% true that high rated Solo games tend to become seldom.
The solution could be, like in the "old good times" (2 years ago), that when ALL FOUR players are beyond 1850 (it was then 1550...), or we could say 2000 symbolically, then it's solo automatically, WTA.
Also, I do not see much sense in a separate bullet leaderboards (this also applies to team). The bullet lost a lot of popularity after the separation of the hyperbullet, the leaderboard is occupied by the players who was rate on the hyperbullet and who support their rating in ½.
It seems to me reasonable to make such a separation of controls:
bullet/hyper bullet
blitz/bullet (lower: 1|1, 0.5|2, 0.1|3, upper: 1|5, 2|4, 3|3, 4|2, 5|1)
rapid/blitz
