General Rules of the Chess.com TM CHAMPIONSHIP version 1

1. Definition:
Chess.com TM CHAMPIONSHIP (TML) is a mixed Tournament (Round Robin and knock-out) played by 32 teams of Chess.com with at least 20 members and with active team matches.
TMC will start next 15th of May 2009 and should take approximately 12 months
2. Pairing Board:
An initial teams classification is created according to its estimated potential (2*#MEMBERS+AVG RATING. According to data extracted on 5/14)
The 8 Top ranked teams will lead each group followed by the next 8 and so on  until seeding the 32 slots available
3. TML Groups and Methodology:
-ROUND 1(1/8 Finals): 8 divisions / 4 groups. 2 first class. Go to ROUND 2
-ROUND 2(1/4 Finals): 4 divisions / 4 groups. 2 first class. Go to ROUND 3
-ROUND 3(1/2 Finals): 2 divisions / 4 groups. 1 first class. Go to FINAL. 2nd class. Go to 3rd PLACE match
The 2 finalist teams are entitled to promote to the Chess.com TM LEAGUE for the next season. The other 6 best teams will go for the promotion play offs with the 6 last teams of the TM LEAGUE current season.
4. Match challenges  and group classification:
All groups, team challenges and dates will be defined by the pairing boards. The group located on the left of the TM Name is the challenger for that match.
From the pairing boards date, there are 2 days to accept the challenge and a total of 5 days to lock the rosters and start the games. In case of a team refusing to play or not meeting  these dates will mean losing the match with an score of 20-0
All games have to finish before 90 days from the initial date, otherwise we will take the score in that given moment as the final result.
The challenging group will ISSUE 1 challenge with the following features:
        -"TMC ROUND #:TEAM A vs TEAM B -"  NO rating limit / 5-∞ players / 2 concurrent games / autostart off / 3 days move

Win will count as 1 point, a lost 0 and draw (in case of) 0.5.
-TIE BREAK SYSTEM is defined by the single scoring differential.
5. General rules and recommendations:
Official Time of the tournament is UCT. (so all dates/schedules are taken accordingly)
Due to Chess.com limitations in case of a player were a member of the 2 teams opponents in a match he/she won't be allowed to play at all, so in case he/she really wanted to play it's up to him/her -self to withdraw one of them to be able to participate with the other.(but repeat- NOT MANDATORY)
All queries, complains, suggestions or improvement ideas should be addressed to the "chess.com TM CHAMPIONSHIP forums"
Any changes on the team names or any other info affecting the correct function of this championship, must be communicated inmediatly!
2 administrators of each team participating in league are encouraged to join this Head Quarters
Check the forums periodically for updates
3 first classified will receive a custom trophy and diploma certificating its classification in the TM CHAMPIONSHIP 2009
All teams registered accept these rules.

u need to designate a max number of members coz if not then small teams like mine wil be crushed stone dead by those that have 300 members

kokino

Sometimes it's not important the members number but the average rate....or other reasons...don't think that your team have to lose against other group because simply the number...

oldlion

Tie-break is maybe better defined by match ratio , instead of scoring difference, because the teams are not obliged to have the same number of players in each match. For instance Team A may loose from Team B with 23:13, and from Team C with 17:9 . The Team C will be in worse position, only because Team A participated with less players in their match. I guess you understand what I mean :-))

One by one, according to the schedule reflected on the pairings board

Well, The biggest chess group ever has already started all the matches (a few hours ago). Was it against the rules then?

No, the rules specify deadline dates... you can start earlier if both groups are ready... :)

Kacparov

Oh, sorry, only 2 matches have started, 1 is still waiting.

My group is playing with group x that has not locked thier rosters for a bit more than 5 days...my group has locked thiers 2 days ago but group x has still not locked thiers..what am I suppose to do now??? I read that it is a rule to lock a team's roster before 5 days.

Yes, there are 5 days to lock but bear in mind that it is taking the pairing board date... so if you are talking about a TM challenge already issued your opponent is not forced to lock it until next 25th... yes, I know it is a long time... but from my experience I have to give that period of time to ensure the championship runs smoothly... try to talk with your opponent leader, I am sure that he/she will lock earlier if you both are ready.

How can we add our group in this Championship?
