I don't want the Tuesday and Saturday events to be that far apart. The second Saturday is sometimes mid-month, and that also doesn't leave as long to write the report before the next event.
The Saturday after the first Tuesday is the second Saturday more often than not.
There's a lot of people who are available on a Saturday but not a Sunday. (including me, btw) That would help some people but hurt others.
Is it possible to shift UT to happen before TT some month? So that people from Europe who can't participate on weekends can also play?
Hmm... if we go before, in western Europe, a lot of people would still be at work (or just getting back from work) when it starts. In North America, everyone would be at work or school. That would only work for eastern Europe and Asia, I think.
The current time is impossible for anyone in Europe anyways. It starts after midnight (except UK where it starts half hour before midnight) and lasts over 2 hours. No one going to work on the next day can stay awake until after 2 am.
On the other hand, starting the event 3h before TT means 7 pm for western Europe and 6 pm for UK. This sounds quite reasonable for most of the people. For those who go to work, a lot more reasonable than going to sleep at 2 am. (and also, I'm still asking about making it extraordinary time, not the usual one)
I know that it would be worse for North America, but now it's bad for Europe. Why not vary how much it's bad for various regions between months, just like it's done with Saturday event?
The other issue with shifting earlier is that Titled Tuesday is the big event, people are online to watch it finish, and then Untitled Tuesday comes right after, while people are still online. A post or two in the ChessTV chat always brings in more people.
The time is awkward. If it wasn't for fitting with Titled Tuesday, I'd have two Saturday events at different times on the same day.
I don't understand why the Saturday schedule is so complicated.
Sure, I could figure it out, but the beauty of the Tuesday event is we know when it will be and we adjust our schedule accordingly. The Saturday schedule should be equally simple.
Ideally that would be the case, but it would mean permanently shutting out some people. Few people will play in a 3:00 AM tourney.
Before the Untitled Tuesday event, you could easily have said that few people would play on Tuesday afternoons.
