LCML Season 3 (2022-23)

RULES OF PLAY

  1. LCML Season 3 is played in the format of a swiss tournament. Pairings of each turn of the tournament (also called "Day"), together with all the necessary information, are announced by the Tournament Director (TD) on the home page of the LCML site and published on the web page of the Day.
  2. As soon as pairings are published, team captains must contact the captain of the opponent team and negotiate the date/time of their match. The date of the match must be set within the deadline. Derogation to this rule can only be asked by captains upon valid motivation.
  3. Captains shall launch the challenge as soon as possible (see https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/how-to-launch-a-challenge-a-tutorialfor details). Matches must be named as “LCML S3 Rn Team A vs Team B” where n is the number of the Round (1 for the first round, 2 for the second, etc.). When the challenge is accepted, the captain who launched the challenge shall post a note on the page of the Day with the link to the match.
  4. Time control must be 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move (10|5). All other parameters (game type, rating, players per group) must be left at their default values. Derogation to this rule can only be asked by captains upon valid motivation.
  5. If a team does not respond to the challenge, the captain of the other team shall inform the Tournament Director before the deadline. The TD will try and contact the captain of the missing team to have explanations. In case of no response in due time, the active team will win the match by forfeit. If no claim is issued and the match is not launched at the deadline, both teams will lose the match by forfeit.
  6. Games can be played over an unlimited number of boards. However, team captains are solicited to take a screenshot of the list of registered players few minutes before the game starts, because the number of players fielded can affect the result of the match as by Rule 7. Failing to provide evidence of the number of registered players may render Rule 7 unapplicable.
  7. In case both teams registered 5 or more players, or both teams registered the same number of players, but less than 5, the result of the match is determined by the score of the games effectively played, as provided by chess.com. In any other case, the team that registered more players gets +2 bonus points for every player that wasn’t paired in the first 5 boards, while the opponent team gets -1 penalty point for every missing player.
  8. In case both teams fielded 5 players or more, the result of the first 5 boards is recorded separately to form the special standings of the TTT – Top Teams Trophy. In case one of the teams, in the first 5 boards, showed less than 5 players, the opponent team gets 2 points for every missing board.
  9. In case a player is banned, his/her games are considered both as lost. If the ban occurred in the first 5 boards, the banned player is considered also a ‘no show’, and his/her team gets -1 penalty point. The result of the match will be changed according to this rule as soon as the ban is known (i.e. when the symbol of the ban appears in the match roster).
  10. Standings are made considering, in order: 1) match points; 2) game points (including bonuses and penalties); 3) matches won; 4) games won; 5) less penalties.

for rule 8. Better clarification would be "In case team fielded 5 players or more, the result of the first 5 boards is recorded separately to form the special standings of the TTT – Top Teams Trophy." that way there is no need for additional clairifications and all cases are well covered.
