A ship (A rook in standard chess) is the strongest piece in chaturaji, dominating the seas in the middle and endgame.
At the beginning of the game, the ship is basically docked at port. It cannot move because the pawns and pieces are in its path. However when unrestricted by other pawns or pieces, it can move a maximum of 14 possible squares as shown by the pic below:
