Should a Christian youth group play with Nerf guns?

Hi everyone.

A youth group I am involved with is planning a fun night this coming Friday. We are intending to have a Nerf gun night where we break into two teams and basically shoot each other with Nerf gun bullets while trying to capture the other teams flag. Everyone in the youth group along with all parents, myself included believe this sounds like it is going to be a fun night. We have already purchased Nerf guns and bullets for everyone and will probably be getting safety glasses for everyone to wear.

A woman who does not attend our church, or youth group has voiced her opinion saying Christians of all people should not be running around with toy guns.

What do you guys think? Is it alright for a christian youth group to play with toy guns; or should we abandon this idea? What do you think we should do?

Does the woman think Christians should ever serve in the military?

Our military is strong because it's ranks are filled with Christians.  New Zealand has an honorable military that has served bravely when forced to do so.  I find it hard to believe it does not have many Godly Christian brothers within it's ranks.

That was my opinion.  I understand that a Christian should not desire and should avoid any action that could send a lost person to hell.  Yet, God expects countries to defend themselves, police to defend civilians, and fathers to defend their homes.  A law abiding citizen that is armed is not fearful.  The criminal will be.

Pray about it.  Ask your other church brothers.  Be sure before you proceed.  The kids will have a lot of fun and they will not grow up wanting to shoot each other with real guns.  Our church plays lazer tag at least once a year.

Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
For the sisters sake, have an answer for her.

Thanks for your quick response Paul.

You are right. I need to have an answer for this women (she is more of a neighbour rather than a Sister in Christ). While I have no doubt that there is nothing wrong with a fun night involving toy guns the fact remains that our good is being spoken of as evil (refer Romans 14:16)

Maybe I need to ask her how it is so different from a simple game of tiggy/tag.

Thankyou Paul

Hello @knightofthelord, where did you get your nerf guns that time? I wanted to buy some, however it is somewhat expensive. I came across this one, https://www.used.forsale/nerf-guns. Is it reasonable enough? What do you think?
