The basic membership is free. Just gold/plantinum/diamond membership costs money.

people in Africa including me can't afford it
also i face many inappropriate ads would appreciate if it is over
I'd appreciate unlimited puzzles for free. Every other paid feature can stay as it is now.

Chess.com is a company and needs money like any other company, how could they pay to keep larger servers running off only donation.

Chess.com is providing a service. If they stop charging for that service, they won't make enough money to provide that service.
They're providing a chess site that has millions of games played every day. They're running cheat detection. They're running tournaments with prize funds. They're providing a lot of content - news reports, lessons, tactics puzzles, and much more. That costs a lot of money.
Lichess is completely free, but Lichess doesn't have the money chess.com has and so can't do some of the things chess.com can do.
There is value in having both sites. Chess.com has free membership for those who want to play here for free, and extra features for those who are willing to pay. Lichess is completely free, but doesn't have all the same features. You can choose what is most valuable to you - or, if you want, you can even play on both sites.

If you are getting inappropriate ads, please report them to the support team. That shouldn't be happening.
Also, please run a malware scan on your device, because sometimes inappropriate ads are caused by malware on your computer rather than something on the website.
It costs Lichess' patrons $500K per year, so nothing is completely free!
Chess.com provide a Great Chess site that millions can use for free and that's good for humanity! (until the bots take over) lol

I get these ads that are very noisy and make a lot of sound and its very distracting

The only reason people prefer lichess because of the fact that Chess.com is not that much free. If Chess.com was free no one would be playing on lichess but from another perspective Chess.com also needs money so what would you guys say should chess.com be free or not
